Distribuzione / Distribution:
Presente in Europa sud-orientale e Asia occidentale, con avvistamenti rari in Italia meridionale e nei Balcani.
Found in Southeastern Europe and Western Asia, with rare sightings in southern Italy and the Balkans.
Aspetto / Appearance:
Somigliante a P. dominula ma leggermente più grande, con ali più scure e torace robusto. Le regine sono facilmente confuse con le regine ospiti.
Resembles P. dominula but is slightly larger, with darker wings and a bulkier thorax. Queens are easily confused with host queens.
Comportamento / Behavior:
La femmina parassita attacca nidi appena fondati, elimina la regina residente e prende il controllo del gruppo di operaie.
The parasitic female attacks newly established nests, eliminates the resident queen, and takes over the group of workers.
Riproduzione / Reproduction:
Produce esclusivamente individui fertili (regine e maschi), sfruttando la forza lavoro dell’ospite.
