1. How Many Wings?
Most insects have 4 wings β two pairs! But some have just two wings, and others none at all! π¦π¦
2. Types of Wings
- Membranous wings: Thin, see-through wings like dragonflies π and bees π have.
- Elytra: Hard, shell-like front wings that beetles πͺ² use to protect their flying wings underneath.
- Scale-covered wings: Butterflies π¦ have colorful wings covered with tiny scales that shimmer! π
3. Why Wings Are Awesome
- Fly fast to escape danger π
- Hover like helicopters to drink nectar π―
- Make sounds by rubbing wings together π΅ (hello, crickets!)

Beetles’ tough front wings (elytra) donβt help them fly β theyβre just armor! Their real wings are hidden underneath and super delicate! π¦Ί
