Today, I studied how insects use chemical cues to navigate their environment. Many species rely on odor trails, pheromone landmarks, or environmental chemical gradients to find food, mates, or their nest.

Ants, for example, lay scent trails that guide colony members to rich food sources and back. Some butterflies detect chemical changes in the wind to orient during migration.

Interestingly, insects combine chemical information with visual and magnetic cues for precise navigation.

In my notes:
“Chemistry guides their journeys — an invisible map written in scent.”

Next, I’ll explore how insect chemical signals change with seasons and environmental shifts.
