🇮🇹 Ciclo vitale e comportamento
Il ciclo vitale di Agrochola circellaris è strettamente legato alle stagioni. L’adulto emerge tipicamente tra settembre e novembre, periodo in cui è possibile vederlo volare nelle ore serali e notturne.
Le femmine depongono le uova sulle foglie di diverse piante ospiti, principalmente arbusti decidui come il corniolo, il prugnolo e altri Rosacee. Le larve si schiudono in primavera, quando iniziano a nutrirsi delle foglie appena germogliate.
Dopo alcune settimane di alimentazione e crescita, le larve scendono al suolo per trasformarsi in crisalidi, entrando in una fase di diapausa estiva. L’adulto comparirà nuovamente in autunno, completando il ciclo.
Il comportamento notturno e la capacità di mimetizzarsi con le foglie autunnali sono adattamenti chiave per sfuggire ai predatori e sfruttare al meglio il clima temperato.

The life cycle of Agrochola circellaris is tightly linked to the seasons. Adults typically emerge between September and November, and can be seen flying in the evening and nighttime hours.
Females lay eggs on the leaves of various host plants, mainly deciduous shrubs such as dogwood, blackthorn, and other Rosaceae. Larvae hatch in spring, feeding on the fresh, newly sprouted leaves.
After several weeks of feeding and growth, larvae descend to the ground to pupate, entering a summer diapause phase. Adults reappear in autumn, completing the cycle.
Nocturnal behavior and the ability to camouflage with autumn leaves are key adaptations to avoid predators and take advantage of the temperate climate.
