It was just past midnight when Glint froze.
“Did you hear that?”
Dracula Bugs tilted his antennae. The whisper came again. Soft, like silk brushing silk.
“Voices in a web,” he murmured. “Come.”
Deep in the hollow of a willow tree, they found it: a spider’s web stretched like a harp, vibrating faintly. But there was no spider—just a lone lacewing, trapped and mumbling.
“They told me… to stay… to warn…” it stuttered.
“Warn who?” asked Dracula Bugs, stepping closer.
The web suddenly tensed. A pulse of sound. From the threads themselves came a voice:
“The predator awakens. Stay out of the roots.”
Then silence.
The lacewing went limp. The web unraveled on its own. Dracula Bugs turned to Glint.
“Something lives below. And it listens.”
