“How deep do the roots go?” Glint asked, peering into the darkness beneath the willow.
Dracula Bugs didn’t answer. He was listening—not with ears, but with instinct. The soil beneath them wasn’t just soil. It pulsed. It breathed.
“I’ve seen this before,” he finally said. “In the Burrows of Mourn. When the centipedes went missing.”
They descended. The tunnels were slick, coated with resin and silk. Then, suddenly—a tremor.
From the darkness emerged a creature: an ant queen, massive and translucent, her eyes clouded white. But she didn’t attack.
“You must not wake the feeder,” she hissed. “It eats dreams… and wings.”
Glint stepped back.
“And where is this… feeder?”
Dracula Bugs pointed downward.
“Still sleeping. For now.”
